CHRONIC MYELOID LEUKEMIA - Biological Basis of Therapy
Organizers:
J.M. Goldman (UK)
J. Cortes (USA)
T.P. Hughes (Australia)
Co-Organizers:
P. Hari, T. Holyoake, F.-X. Mahon, D. Perrotti, J. Radich
Despite the impressive clinical results of tyrosine kinase inhibitors in the management of patients with CML, many unresolved questions remain. This meeting brings together scientists with new data on the cellular, molecular and immune biology of CML, some of which may eventually translate into new therapeutic approaches that would enable the clinician to discontinue therapy with the expectation that the leukaemia would not recur. |

MYELOPROLIFERATIVE DISORDERS
Chairs: T. Barbui, A.R. Green, H.L. Pahl, R. Skoda, W. Vainchenker
Over the past few years there has been a flood of new insights into the classification, pathogenesis and management of the myeloproliferative neoplasms. This meeting is essentially a workshop with an audience. It brings together scientists and clinicians with new data on the cellular and molecular biology of these disorders as well as their diagnosis and treatment. |

MECHANISMS OF CELL DEATH AND DISEASE:
ADVANCES IN THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTION AND DRUG DEVELOPMENT
Chairs: T.J. McDonnell, J.A. Hickman, K.M. Debatin
The conference seeks to address translational aspects of current fundamental science in the field of genetically controlled cell death. In 2010, the main focus is on the Death Receptor Family, some 20 years after their discovery, and on the IAP family of proteins. There will be presentations on both the fundamental aspects of death receptor signalling and IAP function, from opinion leaders in the field, and the clinical utilisation of this knowledge. Following from this, the rapidly emerging field of the control of cell death by ubiquitination / de-ubiquitination will be addressed. A round table discussion on the use of clinical biomarkers to measure apoptotic cell death will provide a lively translational forum. Keynote presentations from Vishva Dixit and Scott Lowe open and close this exciting program of fundamental science in the field of cell death and its clinical translation.

AN UPDATE ON HEMATOLOGICAL MALIGNANCIES, from bench to bedside
Chairs: P. Fenaux, B. Meddeb, G. Salles
The purpose of this conference will be to provide an update on « gold standards » in the diagnostic procedures, evaluation of prognosis and treatment of all types of hematological malignancies. Therefore, procedures having shown their “robustness” and treatments having clearly demonstrated a benefit in outcome, rather than research procedures or treatments, will be emphasized. This symposium should be of particular interest to specialists treating haematological malignancies, including younger physicians. It may also suit haematologists from less economically developed countries who want to introduce only widely validated procedures and treatments.

WORLD CORD BLOOD CONGRESS (CORD BLOOD 2)
President: E. Gluckman
Scientific Committee: W. Arcese, H.E. Broxmeyer, J. Kurtzberg, F. Locatelli, A. Madrigal, V. Rocha, G. Sanz,
E.J. Shpall, J. Wagner, S. Takahashi
Local Organiser: C. Chabannon
The upcoming WORLD CORD BLOOD CONGRESS will cover a wide range of topics including cord blood transplant in adults and children, the role of HLA in cord blood transplant, stem cells, cord blood banking and regulatory issues. A international panel of distinguished scientists and clinicians will participate in this major international forum over three days of interactive conferencing. The scientific programme will comprise a series of plenary presentations and debates. Poster sessions and short oral communications selected from submitted abstracts will enable registered participants to present their own data.
The WORLD CORD BLOOD CONGRESS is open to all the professional actors working in the fields related to cord blood biology and clinical applications, from both the public and private sectors, including physicians, research scientists, technicians, data analysts and nurses. The congress will also be of interest to healthcare policy decision makers.

Type I Hematology Tutorial |
DIAGNOSTIC WORK-UP
FOCUS ON ACUTE MALIGNANCIES
Chairs: B. Bain, W. Erber, R. Foà, G. Zini
The aim of Tutorial courses is to offer a un update on technological advances for early diagnosis, preserving a strong link to traditional morphology and histopathology, as well as providing information on new therapeutic strategies.
Courses are organized using three different didactic tools, which are formal lectures, tutored clinical cases and interactive self-evaluation test-cases sessions. Type 1 Tutorials use original material, while Type 2 and Type 3 utilize educational material that has already been presented, updated as necessary.
This Tutorial is a Type 1, which means a new one with lectures and educational material specially prepared; it is focused on Acute Malignancies.
The program will cover the diagnostic pathway from morphology, through flow cytometry and genetics/molecular genetics to clinical and therapeutic aspects of both Myeloid and Lymphoid Acute Malignancies.
