News from the Executive Board (Eliane Gluckman, ESH President)
The first 6 months of 2011 have been a period of growth and change for the School.
Executive and Scientific Board: John Hickman, chairman of the ESH meetings on Cell Death, has stepped down after many years of faithful service to ESH. Agnès Devergie (Paris) has accepted to join the Scientific Committee to fill the place left by John Hickman. Vanderson Rocha, will be taking up a new position in Oxford in 2012. He will continue to serve on the ESH Scientific Committee but has stepped down as Treasurer as it was agreed that this heavy responsibility would be more suited to someone living nearer to the ESH Executive Office. Pierre Fenaux (Paris) has agreed to take on this important position within the School.
ESH Virtual e-Network (EVEN): Other important changes at the School include the redesign of the ESH logo and website. Any feedback you have about the new look or website functionality would be most welcome. The creation of the ESH Virtual e-Network (EVEN) on the website is a major added-value. It has been developed to provide an international platform for professional exchange between scientists, clinicians, post-doctoral and doctoral students in haematology. Create your password-protected Continuing Professional Development profile on EVEN and select which information you wish to share with others and which information you prefer to stock privately in your personal archive. You can use EVEN to make contact with colleagues worldwide, or to look for a new position.
Call for Applications to Chair an ESH Conference: I am often asked how to go about organizing an ESH Conference. If you have ever wondered about the selection process for ESH events, you will be pleased to know that the full application procedure is now available on-line.
ESH Newsletter: I hope you will enjoy learning more about ESH via our new e-Newsletter. If you would like to submit a highlight or news item, please send it along to the ESH Executive Office: didi.jasmin@univ-paris-diderot.fr for consideration.
News from the Scientific Committee (Bob Löwenberg, Chair, ESH Scientific Committee)
The ESH Scientific Committee met in Paris last March and discussed upcoming programmes.
Some of the 2011 events include the Acute Myeloid Leukemia Scientific Workshop that I will be chairing with Hartmut Döhner in Mandelieu, France and the Word Cord Blood Congress chaired by Eliane Gluckman in Rome, both coming up in October. Also on the programme is the first Advanced Course in Thrombosis and Hemostasis to take place in Cascais, Portugal in November. Full information and on-line registration facilities are available on the ESH website. Learn More
Next year, ESH will organise the first of a new conference series entitled ‘Updates in Clinical Hematology’. This meeting series will offer a 1,5 day overview of the clinical management of a mixture of haematological disorders. As one of the Scientific Chairs, along with Eliane Gluckman and Emili Montserrat, I invite you to Paris to hear international experts discuss their views on these clinical issues? The programme will be practically oriented and illustrated by real clinical cases. Please mark your calendars now for the 9th and 10th of February 2012.
In addition to this event, the ESH Scientific Committee has approved the organization of training courses on rare anaemias and on HSCT, conferences on CML, and on MPN, as well as a scientific workshop on MSC and two haematology tutorials.
As Chair of the ESH Scientific Committee, I hope you will find the upcoming programme adapted to your needs in terms of continuous training, education and professional development. Your feedback is always welcome and will help the Scientific Committee to develop programmes adapted to your needs.
